Composer’s notes

Pastor Ta’Tyana Leonard commissioned me to write a song for Azusa Pacific University's biweekly Kaleo chapels. The upcoming 2023 spring semester's focus was on the book of Nehemiah, so this song incorporates Biblical themes such as lament and restoration, referencing the rebuilding of the wall of Jerusalem.

Lyrics by Lauren Biggs

Lord, my city's in ruins

Ruins

Ruins

I say to the King of my Heart:

My body ain't ill

But there's an aching in my soul

My soul

So build me up from the rubble

Up from the rubble

Up

Build me up from the rubble

Up from the rubble

Up

Lord, remember me with favor

For all that I've done for the people

The people

'Cause when my name is but a whisper in the stardust

You're the only fan I'll need

So build me up from the rubble

Up from the rubble

Up
